FAQ About Our Lung Cancer Screening Program
Who is eligible for the Lung Cancer Screening Program?
Annual screening is available for patients aged 50-80 with a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years, either currently smoking or having quit within the past 15 years.
How is smoking history calculated?
Smoking history is measured in pack-years, calculated by multiplying the number of years smoked by the number of packs per day.
What is the Lung Nodule Program?
Patients with lung nodules detected on previous imaging tests can participate in the Lung Nodule Program, even if they are not eligible for the screening program.
Do I need a referral from my Primary Care Doctor?
No, referrals are not required. Patients can self-refer or refer friends or family members.
How fast will I get the results?
Radiologist readings are available the next day, and patients are notified by phone by the Physician Assistant shortly after.
How does the screening process work?
Patients contact the Nurse Navigator to assess eligibility and schedule an appointment. On the day of the screening, a physical exam and interview are conducted before a low-dose CT scan.
What are the benefits of a low-dose CT scan?
The scan is quick, safe, painless, and more effective than traditional X-rays, offering early detection that can lead to better treatment outcomes.
