Colorectal Cancer Care

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, but at Mountainside Medical Center, we know that it doesn’t have to be. Regular screenings, beginning at age 45, are key to preventing and detecting colorectal cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, when colorectal cancer is found at an early stage before it has the chance to spread, the 5-year relative survival rate is about 90%.

Our colon cancer specialists are committed to ensuring our New Jersey community receives swift and effective care to prevent and treat colorectal cancer. In addition to regular colonoscopies, recognizing the symptoms of colon cancer is an effective way to prevent and detect colon cancer.

Colon cancer can produce a range of symptoms, but the most common ones include:

  • Bleeding from the rectum
  • Blood in the stool
  • Frequent vomiting
  • New or lasting constipation or diarrhea
  • Persistent abdominal pain and/or bloating
  • Unexplained weight loss

Some patients experience no colon cancer symptoms at all, which is why regular colonoscopies are a vital part of your continued health. Please obtain a physician’s referral before you schedule a colonoscopy appointment with one of our GI doctors.
