Our doctors provide comprehensive and individualized treatments for patients of all ages, ranging from those as young as five years of age to geriatric patients. We offer a variety of mental health services across the continuum of care, including inpatient, outpatient, and crisis intervention services. We also provide 24/7 access to emergency mental health care in our emergency room (ER). Behavioral Health Conditions We Treat
Our behavioral health doctors provide comprehensive, personalized treatments for a wide range of behavioral health conditions and disorders. We treat children as young as 6 and 7, adolescents, adults, and senior citizens. Our licensed behavioral health specialists commonly treat the following conditions and disorders:
- Adjustment disorder

- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

Our behavioral health clinic accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
Emergency Crisis Intervention Services
We provide 24/7 access to emergency mental health care in our Emergency Room. The department consists of Crisis Counselors and Crisis Nurses who are skilled in managing and assessing patients experiencing a mental health crisis. Inpatient Therapy
Inpatient therapy is a great option for patients ages 18 and older experiencing acute mental health crises or in need of geriatric behavioral health care. Our inpatient behavioral health adult unit has 30 beds, including four involuntary beds. The inpatient team consists of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, recreational therapists, and mental health technicians.
Together, our team works together to provide:
- Individual and group therapy
- Music therapy, as well as recreational, cognitive, and occupational therapy
- Medication management
- Treatment for underlying medical conditions
Outpatient Therapy
Our outpatient programs provide individual and group therapy for children age five and above, adolescents, adults, and seniors. Monday through Friday we offer in person and virtual services by psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, and registered nurses for children five years of age and older and adults.
Our outpatient therapy services include:
- Bariatric psychiatric screening
- Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
- Individual and group therapy
- Letters of support for gender-affirming care
- Medication management
- Psychiatric evaluation

Partial Hospitalization
Our acute partial hospitalization program (PHP) is available to adults Monday through Friday from 9am to 2pm. We offer limited free transportation. Daily admissions are welcomed. Please call 973-229-6260 to learn if you qualify for our partial hospitalization program.
Inpatient Geriatric Mental Health Services
At Mountainside Medical Center, we are proud to offer comprehensive Mental Health services tailored specifically for seniors. Our integrative program provides high quality, short-term intervention, assessment, and treatment delivered by a team of compassionate geriatric specialists. Our goal is to stabilize each patient so they can safely return to their residence.
Conditions such as dementia and other behavioral conditions can impede a patient’s quality of life and create safety issues. Our geriatric psychiatry program is designed to address the complex needs of older patients. We take a holistic approach to care, treating all underlying medical conditions to provide the highest standard of care.
