Make a positive difference
Volunteers play a vital role at Mountainside Medical Center (MMC) by supporting the hospital’s professional healthcare teams and helping us enhance the patient experience. In fact, volunteers enable us to truly serve as a community hospital where local residents receive world-class care in a convenient location that reflects the spirit of their community.
When you join our MMC volunteer family you become part of a dynamic team who truly touches the lives of patients, families, visitors, and staff. By contributing both your time and talent, you’ll help others, meet new people and learn new skills. While this is a very rewarding experience, it also requires a significant commitment–both in terms of service hours and the prerequisites that must be met as part of our process.
We offer volunteer programs for both adults and teens.
Our volunteer program
A diverse group of volunteers ranging from high school and college students to working professionals and retirees bring an array of talents and skills to their volunteer experience. For example, some choose to knit hats and blankets for infants born at the hospital from the comfort of their own homes while others perform a variety of services on-site at our campus.
Using a comprehensive application process, we pair our volunteers with positions that best match their abilities and suit their availability. This initial process can take up to four weeks for completion.
What our volunteers do
These are just a few of the tasks our volunteers perform that help us at Mountainside Medical Center:
- Greeting patients and visitors
- Patient escort and transport
- Delivering mail and/or newspapers throughout the hospital
- Clerical reception and assistance
- Assisting in administrative departments such as Accounting, IT, Human Resources.
- Assisting patients and staff in nursing units
Adult Volunteer Program
Applications from men and women (age 18 and above) who wish to volunteer are accepted year round. We greatly value adult volunteers who can remain with us long-term and maintain a dependable schedule. Placements are typically based upon a consistent schedule with a four-hour shift each week. New volunteers are asked to serve a minimum of 100 hours each year.
