About Matthew Coons, M.D., FACS

Matthew S. Coons, M.D., is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Coons earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and his Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College.
Dr. Coons trained in General Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. While in his General Surgery Residency, Dr. Coons was a Research Fellow at Maimonides Medical Center and Downstate Medical Center.
Upon completing his General Surgery Residency, Dr. Coons continued his training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He furthered his Plastic Surgery training at the Hospital for Joint Disease in New York City as an Emanuel B. Kaplan Hand Fellow.
Dr. Coons has made multiple national presentations and is widely published in peer review journals. Dr. Coons’ interests include hand surgery and reconstructive surgery with an emphasis on breast reconstruction surgery.
